30 June 2016

3 AM.  Sirens
Break into my sleep...accident?
Fire?  I'll never know.

27 June 2016

After the rain ends,
The bullfrog resumes his song.
I am not amused.

26 June 2016

After the sun sets,
Clouds cover the moon and stars,
Strong winds bend the trees,

25 June 2016

When I close my eyes,
Sometimes the world seems to spin.
Something I don’t need.

23 June 2016

A “flock of fireflies”
Is doubtless not a real thing…
But just look outside.

Four for the Solstice: 20 June 2016

I. 7:00 PM

The clouds, drifting in
From the West, dark as midnight--
Summer storm warning.

II. 8:30 PM

The sky is clear now,
After the rain and thunder
And my tears have gone.

III. 9:00 PM

The summer solstice…
The sun not yet set, the clouds
Still bathed in light.

IV. 9:30 PM

The fireflies come out
Just after the sun has set,
Mimicking lightning.

19 June 2016

The sky a pale blue,
The roads shimmer in the heat.

The dragonflies doze.

17 June 2016

Drifting in the air
Flashing in the fading light
Pinpoints of lightning.

3 for 16 June 2016

Three for 16 June

After the storms pass,
The moon seems to fill the sky
With a cold white light.

Thunder, lightning, rain--
But the bullfrog was silent.
I prefer the storm.

Watching the moon and
Listening to the bullfrog.
I should be sleeping.

15 June 2016

A storm passing through...
Large trees bending with the wind,
Sky dark as midnight.

11 June 2016

Both the weather and
Our emotions are heated.
And we’re exhausted.

9 June 2016

Looking out the door:
A bunny on the sidewalk,
With its nose twitching.

7 June 2016

A strange memory...
Walking alone, late one night,
Heedless of the rain.

6 June 2016

Knees ache when I stand.
Shoulders ache when I reach out.
Still glad I'm alive.

4 June 2016

Watching Ali dance,
Always moving, on his toes--
Then, the sudden sting.

3 June 2016

A chipmunk sunning
Itself,  Our dog is watching
With great interest.

1 June 2016

Afternoon rain,  and
The dog huddles at my feet,
Thinking she'll  be safe.

31 May 2016

At 3 AM, I'm
Still awake, listening to
Blaring horns, sirens...

29 May 2016

Rain is pouring down.
But even that can't drown out
The croaking bullfrog.
